About Schenectady SPCA

We are sworn law enforcement officers with full police powers while performing our duties.  We are required to complete a basic law enforcement academy with over 280 hours of training, not including annual in service training.  Just like Police Officers, we carry all the basic equipment of Police Officers (firearms/mace/batons/etc), and we make arrests and issue summons like Police Officers.

We are not affiliated in any way shape or form with the ASPCA other then we both enforce New York State animal cruelty laws (they provide no funding, guidance, or supervision to our society).  Watch "Animal Precinct" on the Animal Planet channel for a glimpse into a day in the life of one of our law enforcement officers.  Visit http://animal.discovery.com/fansites/animalprecinct/animalprecinct.html for days and times.
