12/27/2010: HOT DOG, IT’S COLD OUTSIDE! Winter Weather Pet Safety Tips

As the Capital Region digs out following the first winter storm of the season, the Schenectady County SPCA County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SC SPCA) is taking the time to remind animal lovers about the importance of winter weather pet safety. While the winter months can be a fun time for our four-legged friends, pet owners may need to take special precautions to prevent animals from succumbing to the cold conditions and other hazards prevalent this time of year.

09/01/2010: New Law in NY Could Lead to Fewer Euthanasia
Dogs and cats across New York stand a greater chance at being adopted, rather than being euthanized. Governor David A. Paterson has signed a law allowing dogs and cats to be released to another pound, shelter or humane society in order to increase the animal’s chances at adoption.

With forecasters predicting record-high temperatures over the next three days, the Schenectady County SPCA Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (SPCA) is issuing a friendly reminder about the dangers of pets and heat. While most people know that leaving a pet in a parked car on a hot day can mean disaster, pets, more so than humans, are susceptible to overheating.

03/17/2010: Hendricks sentenced to two years in prison for animal abuse thanks to Schenectady County SPCA investigation - A Schenectady man will be sentenced to prison after admitting that he abused dogs to death. Fortunately, a toy poodle named Carmella survived the animal abuse and is now put up for adoption by the Schenectady County SPCA. Police learned of the animal abuse when they were called to the man's home in the city's Stockade area for a report of domestic violence. If you are interested in adopting this animal, please call or e-mail your information to the Schenectady County SPCA.
